Ingredients

1 cup cream of wheat (rava)
2 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 medium onion, sliced
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. mustard seeds
1/8 tsp. urad dal (black lentil)
1 cashew
1/4 lemon
1/2 cup peas
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 10-inch piece ginger, grated
1 green chili, diced small
2 cups boiling water

Directions

  1. Dry roast the cream of wheat in a skillet over medium heat until it begins to brown (5 minutes) then set aside.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil (medium) in a skillet.
  3. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, cashew, and garlic clove and fry for a few minutes until mustard seeds split.
  4. Add the onion, green chili, and ginger and fry until the onion browns (about 6-8 minutes).
  5. Add cream of wheat and fry for an additional 3-5 minutes.
  6. Add salt and peas and remove from heat.
  7. Mix in two cups of boiling water and stir for 2 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed by the cream of wheat.
